THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE HAS ISSUED A WINTER STORM WARNING FOR ALGER, KEWEENAW, GOGEBIC, ONTONAGON, AND MARQUETTE COUNTIES.
...WINTER STORM WARNING IN EFFECT FROM 7 PM EST /6 PM CST/ THIS EVENING THROUGH 7 PM EST /6 PM CST/ WEDNESDAY...

WHAT... Heavy snow is expected, with storm totals ranging from 14 to 25 inches. Strong winds, with gusts up to 50 mph, may create periods of near-blizzard or full blizzard conditions, especially in open areas.

WHERE... Gogebic, Keweenaw, Northern Houghton, and Ontonagon Counties.

WHEN... From 7 PM EST /6 PM CST this evening through 7 PM EST /6 PM CST Wednesday.

IMPACTS... Travel will become very difficult to impossible, particularly tonight through Wednesday morning. Widespread blowing and drifting snow will reduce visibility—at times to a quarter mile or less for several consecutive hours. Road conditions will deteriorate quickly, and both the Tuesday evening and Wednesday morning commutes are expected to be severely impacted. Strong winds may also cause isolated power outages as tree branches and lines could come down.

ADDITIONAL DETAILS... Snow may begin earlier than previously expected, potentially arriving by early this afternoon. However, accumulation may initially be limited as surface temperatures hover just above freezing. Once temperatures drop this evening, snowfall rates will increase rapidly, and conditions will worsen overnight.

If you must travel during the storm, ensure your vehicle is equipped with emergency supplies—including a flashlight, food, water, and warm clothing. Major Cold Blast Incoming — Lake-Effect Snow Returns for Michigan.. A sharp drop in temperatures is on the way for Michigan beginning Friday, lasting through Monday and potentially into early next week. This stretch will bring well-below-normal temperatures, brisk winds, and periods of lake-effect snow, especially near the Great Lakes. --- OVERVIEW: Cold air will begin spilling into the region Friday as a broad upper trough settles across the Great Lakes. Daytime highs will struggle to climb out of the 20s and 30s, while overnight lows dip into the teens. Frankfort, Traverse City, Marquette, Munising, and possibly Muskegon, and Grand Haven could have poor trick or treating conditions for tonight, DONT CANCEL PLANS YET! Wait until 4 - 5 PM posts before canceling. The main issue for today is rain, and of course the cold. However the cold is way less of a problem then rain. Rain could completely ruin certain costumes or severely hinder them. Face paint-bassd costumes could be ruined for an example. If you live in these cities DONT CANCEL!  Night time is still several hours out. Thats enough time for things to change. Check back on this blog 4 - 5 pm EST.
