Tuesday: Here comes the snow!

We are monitoring a fast-moving weather system that will bring a mix of rain and snow to portions of southern Michigan overnight tonight and into Tuesday morning.

Precipitation is expected to begin around 4 AM Tuesday, spreading in from the west. At onset, areas across southern Michigan may see a mix of rain, wet snow, and pockets of sleet, which will persist through the early morning commute. While widespread travel impacts are not anticipated, a few slick spots may develop, especially on untreated roads, bridges, and overpasses, as temperatures hover near freezing.

Through the day on Tuesday, precipitation will continue and gradually transition to all snow by late morning or early afternoon as colder air filters in. Current projections support a slushy 1–2 inches of accumulation, with the highest totals most likely on grassy or elevated surfaces where temperatures will be slightly cooler. Significant road accumulation is not expected, but visibility could briefly decrease under heavier bursts.

Farther north, lingering lake-effect snow showers will continue across the Northern Lower Peninsula and eastern Upper Peninsula. These showers should taper off by Tuesday evening, with only light additional accumulations anticipated.

It’s worth noting that some forecast models still differ on the exact placement and intensity of the mixed precipitation Tuesday morning. However, confidence remains high that this will not be a major winter storm. Instead, expect a light, sloppy mix of rain and snow, typical for mid-November. As this system moves quickly through the region.

Stay tuned for updates as we fine-tune the timing and totals.
