WINTER. IS. COMING.

Snow is possible as we enter the weekend into early next week. Several weather systems are expected to move south from Canada, bringing a fresh surge of cold air across the Great Lakes region. As this cold air interacts with the relatively warm lake waters, conditions will become increasingly favorable for lake effect snow to develop.

Winds are forecast to turn northwest, creating an ideal setup for snow bands to form over portions of western and northern Michigan. The most impacted areas will be ones that are located next to lake Michigan but the snow bands will likely be all across the state.

Forecast models still differ on strength, but the most likely window for lake effect snow appears to be Sunday through Tuesday. Most of Michigan can expect at least some snow during this period, especially near the lakeshores.

More detailed updates will be available soon as forecast models come into better agreement and the overall pattern becomes clearer.
